[opensuse-doc] lfl: New chapter on digikam magic
Hey fellow LfLers, I am planning on writing a sort of digikam tutorial to complement the digikam chapter we have in the openSUSE docs which is much more of an overview than a tutorial. Question is - what to include to make this worthwile. So far I have: Importing Images download from camera, import folders, scanner Fixing and Tweaking hot pixels, red eyes, some distortion correction Managing Colors some theory on Histograms, Color curves, white balance etc. plus how to use those to make your images work Applying Effects Composition and Cropping Some general blurb on composition, a few links for the gory details (I'd be grateful if any of you sent me some I might not know) plus digikams cool crop assistant Batch Processing Images RAW Image Conversion Exporting Your Image Collection flickr etc. What else should I add to make this a comprehensive walkthrough to image processing with digikam? Any ideas? very good point :) I am a fan of BibblePro ... Are you thinking of some matrix: function vs. available app featuring this function or what was your original idea?
Using a card-reader vs direct camer connection.
hmmm, you mean performance-wise, right? -- Jana Jaeger jjaeger@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Documentation Maxfeldstr. 5 +49 (0) 911 74053-0 D-90409 Nuernberg http://www.novell.com/linux SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

:^) It's functionality and ease of use far exceeds anything I have found available for free... Not that it does not have a few short-comings.
Are you thinking of some matrix: function vs. available app featuring this function or what was your original idea?
Yes, app available to perform function. Not always clear in the linux world as many very good apps are not well known.
Using a card-reader vs direct camer connection.
hmmm, you mean performance-wise, right?
Yes and camera economics. Card reader does not require camera battery usage, expensive repair if cable connection/connector damaged, cheap card-reader usage vs expensive object (camera) usage.... I would be happy to help you, but I am much better critiquing than generating readable text. :) Then go on critiquing - and providing great feedback. Very much appreciated!

Quite a coincidence, my husband owns a D70 and I got myself a lovely D200 last year - so all example pics will probably be either taken with a D70 or D200 :) -- Jana Jaeger jjaeger@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Documentation Maxfeldstr. 5 +49 (0) 911 74053-0 D-90409 Nuernberg http://www.novell.com/linux SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

In the long run, we should look at having more frequent releases of the LFL doc on http://forgeftp.novell.com/lfl/.html/. But in as a short term workaround, I could send you PDFs or HTML files whenever I consider a certain milestone to be reached (like the completion of a section ...). -- Jana Jaeger jjaeger@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Documentation Maxfeldstr. 5 +49 (0) 911 74053-0 D-90409 Nuernberg http://www.novell.com/linux SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

Either would suffice and be appreciated. Does forgeftp.novell.com allow to run cronjobs? If yes, there should be a nightly [1] cronjob that checks for updates daily (svn up) and rebuilds at least the HTML version ;-) I can help writing some scripts if needed (I have a similar cronjob running on the german FAQ, the only difference is that it's CVS instead of SVN). As far as I know, Novellforge does not support cronjobs. :-( If someone knows more about this issue please let me know.

Thanks, Frank did that somehow already, however on his local machine. :) Bye, Tom -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH >o) Maxfeldstrasse 5 /\\ Documentation Specialist 90409 Nuernberg, Germany _\_v http://en.opensuse.org/Documentation_Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-doc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-doc+help@opensuse.org

Then you just need a cronjob that does an upload daily... Regards, Christian Boltz --

two problems: 1. http://devzilla.novell.com/forge/show_bug.cgi?id=76 => I am currently the only one who can update the HTML stuff ;-((((((((((((( (and I forget it too often) This is also the reason why the script is not available for all users. 2. forgeftp requires authentication and I do not want to put my (or anyone else's) passwords in a script -- Regards Frank Frank Sundermeyer, Technical Writer, Documentation SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg Tel: +49-911-74053-0, Fax: +49-911-7417755; http://www.opensuse.org/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Reality is always controlled by the people who are most insane (Dogbert) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-doc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-doc+help@opensuse.org
