Hi all, the openSUSE:Factory:Contrib was founded some weeks ago, but still contains three packages only (the last request is about one month old). I did not see any activity on other mailing openSUSE list (opensuse-packaging, or opensuse) about Contrib. I know, that suse staff has too much work with new openSUSE/SLE Beta releases, but this would be interesting for community and they could also help. So I would like to ask - what now with Contrib? Do you think, that everything is ready for public announcement, or we are waiting for something? If yes, then what is necessary to be done? Best Regards Michal Vyskocil -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

yea... Just take from here: http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib We should derive it from "Vision" part of our page... Just modify it so more users will be interested We need to make it sound more sexy ====================================================== Contrib: The Universal openSUSE Repository for Third-party Packages Vision We want to make a new model, which suites better deployment and distribution. Our goal is to setup some kind of universal repository for third-party packages. This repository should be viewed as a community-driven extension of Factory, with all it's standards and limitations applied. Getting everything into Factory is right now not an option since for Factory we have Novell employees as maintainers to guarantee updates. In the long run this might change once Contrib is successful. The consensus of the community members discussing this is to establish a big, united third-party packages repository for openSUSE (in the Build Service), with the goal of making those packages stable and easily searchable & downloadable. This repository sits somewhere in between openSUSE itself "Factory", and small user's Build Service projects, where few packages usually exist. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

Well one thing which definitely needs to be done is some sort of review criteria. Cheers, Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

Hi, What I had in mind was something more structured like: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_Review_Process https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/ReviewGuidelines That said I do not want to create barriers or make for more work, but to be considered a reliable trustworthy repo, it must have some clearly defined Qa checks. Plus, some clear written guidelines will also allow people who are newer or less experience with packaging to still provide trustworthy reviews - if they can show they have followed the guidelines carefully. There were only few package requests really until now. Yes - I think we should proceed for public announcement ! -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org
