[opensuse-buildservice] Installing on Mandriva via OBS repo

Hi All, I am trying to install my program on Mandriva but can't seem to add the OBS repository. It seems that the command urpmi.addmedia doesn't work with the normal RPM PM. Someone on IRC mentioned that I could specify a different type for the repository in my OBS raw config to automatically generate a urpmi compatible repo. What do I put as the type for my Mandriva repo to make it urpmi compatible? OK, did that but halts before it can finish the configure. Is there another way to access the logs? an alternative solution would be: ln -s /usr/include/et/com_err.h /usr/include/com_err.h that's how I got it to work on my own box. But I could not do that in the build service because I was getting permission denied errors. [opensuse-buildservice] Prefer vs Support vs Keep vs Substitute

What is the difference between Support and Keep? Like, let's say I have a package FOO that I'd like to always be installed in the build environment, *if* it is available. If it is not available, block all other builds until it *is* available, but do not block FOO itself. How do I do that? dolphin-emu from home:RedDwarf:NonFree, that uses the new tar_scm source service, has been in "source update running" for more than an hour. Also, at least the tar_scm version I have installed from openSUSE:Tools seems to have a typo that makes --filename not work. Hello, I was trying out multiple actions in one request and noticed that the notifications contain only the last action. I looked at the code and found this in /usr/lib/obs/server/BSNotify.pm line 82 : # FIXME: how to handle multiple actions in one request here ? # right now the last one just wins .... So here's a proposed fix : add an actions key in the reqinfo hash, that contains an ordered list of hashes that contain the details of the actions. When building ISO images using kiwi, I have a question: It seems that I have no problems building ISO images for SUSE base distros (no surprise there). However, if I try to build an ISO image using something else (CentOS seems to be my example...), I get an unresolvable error: nothing provides kiwi, nothing provides kiwi-packagesmanager:instsource. So... does the ISO building in OBS require those package compiled for the target distribution? The openSUSE Build Service - OBS - is now officially at release 2.1. We're delighted with the improvements in this release, including an enhanced web interface, integration with online code management systems and better access controls. OBS 2.1 Introduces New Features =========================== Enhanced web user interface This iteration has enhanced the web user interface of openSUSE Build Service with features that were previously only in the osc command line client. It now allows submitting of packages to other projects, showing a history of changes and who did them, with associated comments. This means that the full work flow needed to build packages, contribute them to projects and collaborate on them is available from the web interface. Integration with online source code management tools Users of the Build Service may now access a new concept called 'source services'. Source services allow, for example, the automatic checkout of source code for a package from a remote server via Git or Subversion, building a tar ball from these checked out sources, and using them for building a package. It also enables direct download of tar balls from remote sites. This allows packagers to work with external sources without downloading them to their own workstations, and makes it easy to rebuild packages after upstream changes with a single click. Better access controls The access controls have been enhanced so that read/write access to a project can be granted on an individual basis. This allows for tighter control of work flows where needed. You can for example ensure people don't have access to security updates while they are being tested. This is more of an initial exploration than a concrete proposal :) I'll post this to both the opensuse-buildservice(a)opensuse.org and meego-dev(a)meego.com lists. MeeGo is going to be using the Open Collaboration Services (OCS) API. http://www.socialdesktop.org/ocs/ http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/open-collaboration-services One of the features of this is to provide feedback and ratings from the device/desktop to the application development team. MeeGo's community OBS will be used for developers to manage their applications and I was interested in the concept of using the OBS API to support this. The api already provides some rating services so it seems to fit in somewhere. https://api.obs.maemo.org/apidocs/#107 As I say, the use-case is something around providing feedback from the application launcher on the device; maybe an on-device popup that allows a star rating, comment etc that is linked back to the appropriate OBS package and team. So.... does this fit with the intended usage around the 'rating' type services already in the OBS? Hi! You may have heard of this funny little thing called Project Bretzn, which Frank Karlitschek announced at the openSuse conference last week[1]. I'm one of the people working on the connecting-the-dots bit for it, and as the subject hints at, I have now run into what seems like a bit of a problem: I cannot find any functions to actually create a new package using the web API. I can interact with existing ones perfectly fine (storing new information into _meta), but creating new ones seems to be missing. Can someone help me out here? I further assume that the same problem exists for creating sub-projects, and as such would like to request assistance with this as well - this is less important, but would be greatly appreciated if it is possible. In short, what i would like to request is: Pointers to which functions i will need to call to create a new package, and to create new sub-projects. Hi, I am attempting to build a new package (and maybe this is really a packaging question) and now have an example that has hit on a rather long standing confusion of mine. Never having had a good example I was amiss of being able to properly formulate my lack of understanding (this is I believe a build-service question). I am trying to build euca2ools, which is implemented in Python and requires boto and m2crypto. M2crypto is found in the standard distribution, thus that does not pose a problem. However, boto (available as python-boto) is only found in the devel:languages:python project. Now, I can certainly make my project dependent on devel:languages:python and get what I need. That part I understand. However, what happens if/when I want to submit my work to the project. How do things end up in the right place, and where would for example Eucalyptus end up? Further, how would this dependency on devel:languages:python be resolved? Why would a package that is part of devel:langauges:ANYTHING not be part of the :standard project? Come to think of it, I do have another example. A while back I submitted perlcritic and it's dependent packages to the project and things are in devel:languages:perl. I made the assumption that from there it would eventually propagate up the tree and just be available in the distribution. However, as I just checked it is not. As far as I understand things, a devel project/repo is subject to have version changes at pretty much any given time. Thus, I am wondering why packages would not be in a more static place. I suppose this is where Contrib might come into play, however, how would we then separate packages from devel:languages:ANYTHING and put some of those into :contrib and others into :standard? For example what makes perl-razor-agents a special package to be part of :standard while a person wanting perlcritic would have to add devel:languages:perl as a repo. (Just using perlcritic as an example, not because I feel neglected but because it is easy for me to illustrate my confusion). Clarification is appreciated. I noticed a bug in the set_version service. If the destination file is a specfile, then the file gets overwritten /twice/ - once with the new version, and once with 'Release: 0' which throws out the first (version) change. Hi, I just looked at the 10.10 chroot and it doesn't start because procps can't run "start procps" in its post install script because it can't connect to Upstart (obviously). The problem, and its apparent solution, is documented in their release notes at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes - search for "Upstart jobs cannot be run in a chroot." Basically one just has to symlink /sbin/initctl to /bin/true but I have no idea how to inject custom commands into the chroot setup so I leave that to you. Also, regarding our general approach for creating debian based chroots: Why don't we simply use "debootstrap"? At least that is what the Ubuntu people wondered and, after giving it a try, I'm wondering too. It is a simple bash script (so the extracted debian package "just works" or it could easily get repackaged into a rpm) that takes the distro, architecture and wanted variant (minimal, with build tools, ...) as arguments and then automatically sets up a working chroot. So, how about we change the approach for debian based systems and simply use their debootstrap to create the initial chroot and then just install the dependencies of the to be build package afterwards? Besides being very easy to use and actually working (e.g. it already contains a fix / workaround for the change that is screwing us over with upstart on 10.10) it would also remove the "joy" to debug the stuff every few months when a new debian based thingy gets imported? Hi, with QEMU User Mode improving, we can now catch a couple of embedded architectures with OBS. The newest one in the family being SH4: http://lizards.opensuse.org/2010/10/24/obs-2-1-status-of-superh-sh4-support… Also, I had fixed the virtual machine builds (KVM, XEN should also work) if mixed with QEMU User mode for all the archs. [opensuse-buildservice] Workflow suggestions for working with nightly builds and full releases

Hi all, I'm hoping to get some suggestions from you guys about how to best handle a bunch of packages I'm maintaining. Basically I have a number of packages (the Falcon programming language, some extra modules and some tools). What I would like to do is have a OBS project (falcon:Unstable -- all under my home:Milliams personal project) where I build nightly versions of the packages, then I would also like to have a second project (home:Milliams:falcon) where I build only the officially released packages. Is there any way in which I can ease this cycle since on the whole, the spec files in the two projects will be almost identical. Can I perhaps maintain one as the main project and have the other one link against it with patches applied to change the version and the tarball? I will probably use the new 'source service' technique for the Unstable repo to fetch snapshots from Git and maybe for the release repo to to get the tarballs directly from the release website. Now I see, that syslog-ng does not compile due glib's move to / from /usr. Is there any way to accept a previously rejected sr, or I should hand pick glib related fixes and resubmit? I have two questions: 1.) I've been able to figure out add-on ISO images that are based on SUSE distros; however I also need similar ISO images for non-SUSE distros such as CentOS, etc. I figured before I dug in too deeply, I'd ask the list if templates for making add-on ISO images for non-SUSE distros exist already. 2.) Hi, the README.UPDATERS file mentions /srv/www/obs/api/files/distributions.xml as default target definition. That would mean I could change this to our own internal targets when people create an own build based on our own internal repos, which would be very helpful. Unfortunately nothing changes when I change this file. I already restarted lighthttp and obsapidelayed and did wait for half an hour. The api is blocking now all users, who are not in state "confirmed". The user creation is also now dis-allowed, if LDAP or iChain athentification mode is used. In addition OBS 2.0.7 is fixing an issue when branching package sources via project links. Hi all, this patch allows to change the order of repository paths directly in the project configuration. Currently, this is only possible via editing the raw config. As the screenie shows, some (hopefully self-explaining) icons where added (deliberately stolen from the bento icon theme, which deliberately stole it elsewhere :-). Writing tests for the controller parts remains to be done though. As I'm fairly new to the intricacies of webui, this may not be the most ruby- esque way of doing it. I have two questions: * When the revision number changes, I guess, the file-name changes, too; is there a way to automatically detect the current number? * RPMLINT tells me "Files bigger than 100k should be bzip2'ed in order to save space."; is there a way to compress the tar automatically? Hi, I'm working on a little project on the suse build service: home:cavallo71:opt-python-interpreters opt-python-svn85227 This is a special /opt based python version pulled from the svn repository: it is based on python 2.7.x (so it carries its own libpython2.7.so.1.0). On a OpenSuSE factory the virtual machine build process pulls the initial dependency list including libpython2.7.so.1.0: this is available both from the (I suppose) base distro and from mine /opt based repository (there are multiple opt-python-svnXXXXX one for each subversion checkout). This will return the following error message: "have choice for libpython2.7.so.1.0 needed by python-base: opt-python-svn84368 opt-python opt-python-svn84091 opt-python- svn83620 opt-python-svn83132 opt-python-svn84276 libpython2_7-1_0" The build fails since few days ago, so I suppose something has changed in the repos resolution order recently. Hello! I'm currently trying to build new mediawiki packages which are FHS compliant. I've nearly finished it, but I have one tiny problem: Included in the sources there is one small tool which must be compiled and is therefore architecture depended. Therefore the main package should go into a noarch RPM, a small sub-package into an architecture specific RPM. It seems, build support something like this since OSS 11.3, but only the other way round: The sub-package can be noarch (which makes sense for docs I think). Putting the following into the spec: Name: mediawiki ... %if %{?suse_version} >= 1130 BuildArch: noarch %endif ... %package texvc %if %{?suse_version} >= 1130 BuildArch: %{arch} %endif ... leads into error: line 62: Only noarch subpackages are supported: BuildArch: %{arch} Do you see a way how to handle this problem nicely except splitting up the package into two packages, one for the scripts, one for the binary? Hi, I've changed some of my .spec files to allow building in Fedora 13 in OBS, and the results are quite nice, though there's a couple of things I seek guidance: * How to make usage of rpmlint in Fedora builds? I've noticed that rpmlint doesn't run for F13 builds. Is there anyway I can place the rpmlint config file from Fedora and make it run through it? * What is the problem with {?dist}? (the usual .fc13.). Though the packaged built locally are generated properly the ones built on OBS do not get the .fc13. Was this intended? (not much of an issue though). * How to add extra repositories? I'm not sure why, but qmake-qt4 package isn't being picked up for Fedora. How would one configure OBS to grab packages from a Fedora Mirror ? This should clarify the purpose of the links and aligns them to what is found in the bottom left. Hi, in order to do the final switch of the underlying storage for the backend server (an increase from 4.8T to 8T storage) there will be a (hopefully) short downtime for the OBS. At the moment, the server will still react, but the schedulers, dispatcher and publisher are off and a sync is running (the sync before had just completed, so the delta should already be quite small). If this run is done, OBS will go down in maintenance mode, repserver will be shutdown and the webservice will give out a downtime message and the old storate will be remounted readonly for one final and hopefully quick sync before we switch to the new filesystem. Hi, I just had libsndfile sr #49949 declined by factory due to changes not being in strict chronological order. I think this slipped past the osc source validator because there is libsndfile.changes and libsndfile-progs.changes in the same package and I copied the one to the other, meanwhile libsndfile-progs.changes had an additional entry when the linked package was split off. It would be good if the source validator had picked this up. I'm trying to configure my OBS to cross compile packages for SH4 architecture (someone knows me from the IRC channel), to configure my OBS I'm using an unofficial Debian SH4 port[1] and a prjconf file from build.opensuse.org debian 5.0 project[2]. Hi, I remember that way back I used to get Email notifications if the build of one of the packages I maintain was broken. Am I remembering wrong? At least it seems I am now not getting any such notifications, as when I did my last routine check around the Build Service I found that two of the packages I build were broken for factory, without me getting notified. At least I think this would be a really useful feature, especially while there is no monitor page displaying all involved packages. I also feared I accidentally switched it of, but even googling didn't turn up anything on the topic. An "osc ls -b home:RedDwarf -r openSUSE_11.3 -a x86_64" returns things like: opensc.rpm opensc-debuginfo.rpm opensc-debugsource.rpm opensc-devel.rpm But I deleted the "opensc" package in my home repo long ago. Since it doesn't exists anymore I can't use osc wipebinaries. What can I do? Is it possible to configure OBS (a local instance) to have a custom tag/addition to the (auto-modified) "Release: " tag for a package? Or is this something I have to modify in the OBS source? If I need to modify the source, where would I need to look to get started. (I noticed that /usr/lib/build appears to be the right place, but wanted to double check...) I've got a problem that I don't understand. I'm using osc 0.129 against 2.0.6. osc rq list -s all returns an error Server returned an error: HTTP Error 400: Bad Request syntax error: bad primary: But "osc req list" does not. Furthermore, I use osc sr and osc ar without error. I'm getting an error in the package build log for Fedora_12 x86_64. The error doesn't appear for other distros or architectures. It appears to be from the %find_lang macro, although I can't be sure. A quick question... I'm packaging gedit-latex-plugin which could pretty much be a 'noarch' file, but this option brings some problems... While in x86_64 the plugin directory is /usr/lib64/gedit-2/plugins, in x86 it is /usr/lib/gedit-2/plugins. I've packaged it using %{_libdir} macro so that the path and install of the files is correctly done, though it brings out a RPMLint error (see bellow). What is adviced on this cases? Hello Everyone, I've already tested Mingw32 on my own (Ubuntu) system and was able to verify that it did indeed compile my program. I would like to move the build process to OBS, but whenever I make a control/dsc file with 'Build-Depends: gcc-mingw32' or 'mingw32' it says they are unavailable. The repository that this is running on is made from Ubuntu 10.04. Ubuntu 10.04 has both of these packages available via APT, but for some reason OBS can't seem to find them. Is there another better way to use MinGW with OBS, or get MinGW to be available? Hi, One of the major annoyances in a large OBS instance with many architectures and cross links is when the dispatcher decides to put multiple build jobs of the same package (different archs/targets) on the same build host, while plenty of build hosts are sitting idle and doing nothing, this is especially annoying with large packages such as the kernel and Qt. Is this an implementation issue, by design or is there some trick to avoid this? [opensuse-buildservice] Is osc source validator supposed to recognize a commented out escaped %

Hi, is it an intended feature in the osc source validator that it picks up "#%{xx}" as a macro? It's fine if I shouldn't submit things like this to major repos like factory but when I'm working on a package it's a #%{xx} pain in the neck. The source validator is a fantastic tool but that quirk which results in the message "ERROR: source_validator failed" is going to drive me mad. Could somebody please at least enable a switch to turn it off or make it ignore comments. I'm going to have to uninstall it again. Please don't suggest that I help out and fix it, I estimate that the source validator has already cost me a couple of days preventing me from completing things I'm supposed to be doing. Larger code changes happened in * sourceaccess flag handling, people who already protect crown jewels via this should update immediatly. * api allows to limit new user registration now. It can be set to deny user registration (except for Admin) or to require additional confirmation step by the Admin. * webui offers a UI for a new user registration. We still have a number of open issues, so we will need for sure a Beta 3 release. Open issues are: * Regression when trying to access source files of deleted packages (not possible anymore). * webui needs some layout fixes for - new user registration dialog - linked package view * fixes in source service area. Hi All, for a while already I have observed that gstreamer-0_10-doc in GNOME:Factory (and now also in GNOME:STABLE:2.32, which is being prepared at this moment) fails to build on openSUSE 11.3 / x86_64. I do not believe the fault lies in gst itself, as the system actually fails to setup the buildroot properly. The error in the log is: installing linux-glibc-devel-2.6.32-3.3 installing texlive-bin-jadetex-2009-12.11 installing glibc-locale-2.11.2-2.4 installing texlive-bin-latex-2009-12.11 installing texlive-latex-doc-2009-12.11 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/mathmode/Mathmode.pdf;4ca5a803: cpio: read failed - Bad file descriptor exit ... SysRq : Power Off Power down. (Full log at https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log?arch=x86_64&package=gstre… ) As you can imagine, the cpio error cancels the entire process. [opensuse-buildservice] Doubts about crossbuild and qemu

Hi, all! Now that I've configured an OBS instance correctly and I can compile packages for i586 architecture, I would like to know how crossbuild works, because I want to cross compile packages for sh4 architecture and someone told me (and after I read that into the crossbuild wiki article) that I will need to use qemu, but I don't know how to configure OBS and qemu to work together and what kind of hardware I would need. Now, my OBS is configured in a VM (VirtualBox) only to test it and see that it works correctly before it will be configured into a real machine, so now I have a limited hardware. So, can someone explain me how OBS uses qemu? Because I don't know if I need a set of binary packages for sh4 architecture to start compilation into qemu or the qemu image created by OBS has its own compilation environment.
