I started a count of logins where it has not happened and I counted 3 logins as "root" and 5 logins on my general account without this happening. In the interim, I have made a number of changes to my setup, so there is no way to tell exactly what happened. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Think about this: User logs on and the old .xsession-errors file is erased and a new one started. A problem occurs that kills the session and the User has to login again. What is going to happen immediately? Answer: The last .xsession-errors file is erased and a new one started. So any trace of the original problem is erased. The only way that .xsession-errors is going to give any information is if you chance the way it works so that the last previous .xsession-errors file is not erased, and the next session is appended to it. There should be a way to do that. What causes .xsession-errors to be erased? It is probably in a startup script somewhere. It should be easy to change. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The attached ~/.xsession-errors file is from a working session (there is no message about KDE crashing or exiting).
Jim is right (see comment #7). Can you give a hint on how to prevent xsession-errors from getting deleted on another successful logon (perhaps there is a way to setup a circular logging or something like that). Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did not try very often, but I failed to get a crash before or after updating the software. I will keep trying logins for a couple of days, but I have a feeling it is not going to happen again on this computer -- which is good and bad I suppose. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
