[Bug 829997] New: vm manager can't browse local file directory - Likely related to very recent update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829997 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829997#c0 Summary: vm manager can't browse local file directory - Likely related to very recent update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tonysu@su-networking.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 Ran zypper up yesterday, no problem observed. Ran zypper up today(July 17, 2013), unable to browse the local file directory The window freezes. Can click the top left "X" to close the window, after a minute or two the window pops up saying that the application is not responding, click to terminate the app (and children) See "Additional Information" below, my early speculation is a permissions problem, but might also be a qemu driver problem. Am assigning a "critical" bug severity because IMO this breaks a significant part of vm manager. Workaround likely is to just not use vm manager and work from command line (although not tested, that may also be broken). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open vm manager 2.a Click "Create new VM" 3.a. Proceed with wizard, until browse to ISO Windows freezes. 2b. Open an existing Guest VM 3b. Add a file system 3c. Browse to source Window freezes Actual Results: Window freezes Expected Results: Should be able to click on "Local System" and browse to the ISO. Since no common folders previously used display, the local browsing function was probably broken sometime beforehand Following: Attempt to force re-install libvirt (stdout) Attempt to force re-install qemu (stdout) Syslog (note missing qemu driver) Syslog (note inability to apply iptables rules to libvirt created br objects) I attempted to force re-install libvirt and qemu, the following logs follow. NOTE the permissions problem. In fact, I wonder if the problem had already existed before re-installing (so could not read or browse the local directory). NOTE the error when I attempted to re-install qemu which I quote again here <from qemu re-install> Additional rpm output: /usr/lib/qemu-bridge-helper: cannot verify root:root 0755 - not listed in /etc/permissions </from qemu re-install> Forcing re-installation libvirt LOCALMACHINE:/home/localuser # zypper in -f libvirt libvirt-client libvirt-python Loading repository data... He ended up simply creating a new disk image in his default storage pool, and so was able to simply define the path to the disk file instead of browsing. Am wondering if he could somehow have received libvirt packages more recently than myself (could that really happen if I'm running zypper update often enough I <should> have been fully updated?). Sorry I can't reference the exact place of that discussion, but my recollection of the problem should be accurate. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829997 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=829997#c2 --- Comment #2 from Tony Su <tonysu@su-networking.com> 2013-07-17 18:53:19 UTC --- Minor update: Appended this line to /etc/permissions /usr/lib/qemu-bridge-helper root:root 0755 Then did a re-install of qemu That fixed the permissions error related to qemu but the vm manager browsing problem still exists BTW - I force -re-installed the libvirt and qemu packages pointing to oss but did not update the system, so my thinking now is that the problem isn't in the libvirt and qemu packages themselves but something that they interact with. I noticed that the update in question was about 360mb, including major parts of KDE opensuse 12.3 KDE 4.10.5 "release 1" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After the above (re-installing all libvirt and qemu packages from the Install DVD), and adding the line to /etc/permissions, note that at that point I was still experiencing the problem running the original oss packages. Just now, after verifying the problem still existed, I ran "zypper up" again, and as expected the Updater identified the "old" libvirt and qemu packages. After running the Update, The problem seems to have been resolved and so far everything seems to be working again including the ability for vm manager to browse the local file system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
