The broadcom wl driver is supposed to support the Broadcom wlan adapters. I suppose your dell wireless 1397 is using other driver. Would it be possible to post the output of "hwinfo --wlan" ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Model: "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card" Vendor: pci 0x14e4 "Broadcom" Device: pci 0x4315 "BCM4312 802.11b/g" SubVendor: pci 0x1028 "Dell" SubDevice: pci 0x000c "Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card" <snip> Driver Status: ssb is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe ssb" Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #7 (PCI bridge)
It is Broadcom, but the ssb driver is loaded instead of wl. Try to unload the ssb driver [1] and load the wl [2]. You can observe messages what is going on [3]. If it works try to blacklist the ssb driver [4] and reboot. Did it help ? If not would it be possible to post output of "hwinfo --wlan" and "lsmod" ? Run all commands as root. [1] rmmod ssb [2] modprobe wl [3] tail -f /var/log/messages [4] add line "blacklist ssb" into the file /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

By the way I found that I don't have broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop installed as I have 2.6.33 kernel(yes have to use it as default kernel doesn't support my intel 5 series hd graphics). I couldn't find appropriate package for this kernel.
I switch to 11.3 when you use 2.6.33 kernel. It would be better to download [1] and compile the Broadcom driver then. You will need to install the pattern devel_kernel [2] before you "make" the driver. The BUILD and INSTALL is strait-forward as described in README.txt. From the information you provided here, I get PCI ID: 14e4:4315. Chipset: BCM4312. Partially supported 2.6.33 and later (PIO mode). This means (afaik) that you may need to create a file named b43.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/ with options b43 pio=1 qos=0
