The 8.3 restriction is a historic "feature" - my impression is: we can obsolete it now. Will try to fix it for the next openSUSE version (aka Factory) now. But I would suggest to make it better as Fedora, once we change it :-) as even Fedora just tell you that it's an Alpha version neither which Alpha nor which CD is in the drive...
