[Bug 673861] New: Address space collision in dmesg, system randomly unstable

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673861 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673861#c0 Summary: Address space collision in dmesg, system randomly unstable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: pghben@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=415373) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=415373) dmesg output xen - will add non-xen after reboot User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b10) Gecko/20110121 Firefox/4.0b10 During boot the message: [ 0.189447] pci_root PNP0A03:00: address space collision: host bridge window [mem 0x000d0000-0x000d3fff] conflicts with reserved [mem 0x000d2000-0x000fffff] appears. The running system has low frequency freezes. possible related symptoms: As gnome is starting after login, the cursor goes to the "working" mode and will not return to normal, except by switching to console and back. Compiz crashes on startup and reverts back to off. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot either xen or normal kernel - message always appears 2. 3. Same thing happens on another slightly different HP DV9000 laptop. Both have run 11.2 since release without message/stability issue. Both have latest bios. System has run a long time without crashing, or crashed immediately - no obvious pattern -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

During boot the message: [ 0.189447] pci_root PNP0A03:00: address space collision: host bridge window [mem 0x000d0000-0x000d3fff] conflicts with reserved [mem 0x000d2000-0x000fffff]
Well, as suggested, does pci=nocrs kernel parameter help?
The running system has low frequency freezes.
Do keyboard LEDs blink? What kind of freeze is that? Do sysrq keys work? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673861 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673861#c4 Ben Heggy <pghben@yahoo.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW InfoProvider|pghben@yahoo.com | --- Comment #4 from Ben Heggy <pghben@yahoo.com> 2011-02-22 00:17:14 UTC --- pci=nocrs makes the "stuck in hourglass" problem worse on the default kernel in fact it acts like the system is running but not updating the display (other than the revolving cursor) except when I switch to console and back. pci=nocrs does not seem to have any effect on xen kernel. The randomness of time between "hangs" makes it hard to tell if they are affected or just not happening at the moment. But has not happened since I filed report. by "hang" i mean: no kbd led blink black screen, but backlight on sysrq has no effect no hdd activity led indication power/indicator lights stay the same fans continue to run at same speed. FYI the compiz crashing bug I posted seperately seems to be unaffected by the kernel parameter change. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What graphics adapter is there in your system? 2. Would it be possible to check if the symptoms (including the reported address space collision) are still present in the current master kernel from http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/master/ (matching your system configuration; please don't replace your distro kernel with this one until you've verified that it works for you, simply install it as an additional kernel)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
