However the installer screen does not complain about the drives having a unreadable partition anymore and it does see the partitions in the partitioner. I unmounted it. When I boot into 11.2, YaST partitioner sees only the /dev/md0 and /dev/sdb /dev/sdc. It does not recognise the raid partition as functional. I can't set it to mount using expert partitioner because it thinks there is no filesystem. Partitions setup as mdadm RAID I believe using YaST partitioner. I presume the same problem afflicts mdadm and dmraid (which I tried before and was broken). Fortunately I don't have hardly anything on the partition. I could nuke it to fix, but that wouldn't solve the problem for everyone else. It seems like there are serious issues with the openSUSE failsafe repair mechanisms which make redundant and inconsistent information. Can someone point to documentation on how this the failsafe systems are meant to work so I can find the inconsistencies and post them here? (To date, I have spend a couple of weeks playing round with openSUSE 11.1 and now 11.2 and am yet to be confident with its stability, having had to resort to complete reinstalls on a few occasions to get around bugs.) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529381 User ian.cheong@acm.org added comment http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529381#c13 --- Comment #13 from Ian Cheong <ian.cheong@acm.org> 2009-10-24 16:47:06 MDT --- 11.2 fails to recognise raid filesystem type (both Yast and mdadm). See Bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=548132 for further information. This could be the cause of raid not loading?? FWIW I have removed dmraid previosuly, because it took over my BIOS raid array. I had a RAID array set up in BIOS raid in 11.1 (intel ICH9). After having it recognised by dmraid (Using YaST partitioner), the array was no longer recognised by bios raid. This makes dmraid no more functional than a BIOS raid capturing program. I'm not sure this is a bug or intended behaviour. I think it's bug, since if I want to use BIOS raid, it's because it is not dependent on the OS and is capable of bios monitoring and repairs. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The Intel specification for ICH9 raid requires that arrays be a multiple of 1Meg is size, but this is not immediately clear. So earlier versions of dmraid did not truncate arrays to be a multiple of 1Meg, but newer versions do. This can obviously cause confusion much like what you have found. So could you please report the exact size of the array as reported in the configuration where it appears to work. If this is not a multiple of 1Meg, that is almost certainly the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
