Bug #810618 shows me that a failing modesetting driver
initialization (when KMS
fails due to other reasons; nomodeset is not specified at all) is also fatal
with autoconfiguration, i.e. no xorg.conf has been specified.
I tried nomodeset in the boot which gets me to a garbled screen. If details are
needed I can retry with that(should I add as it was initially the modestting in
the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install file? In another scenario I got a garbled screen
but unfortunately I don't remember which one. I can reinstall and provide
details if needed. Just let me know. Thanks.
