I had previously tried that button to install debug packages, and it said that they couldn't be found. After checking the link you provided, I checked my listed repos, and noticed that the debug repo was marked as disabled. I fixed that, and tried again. It looks as if this is the same as already listed KDE bug 243434 (with many reports). It is listed as closed and fixed, and the submission page indicated that they didn't want new reports unless it was a different bug. So I still haven't reported anything. The report page for 243434 was a bit hard to read. In particular, I could not tell when it was fixed, so I don't know whether I am using a version before the fix or a version after the fix. I have a typical 11.4 install, with updates applies as reported by kpackagekit. The system where I mainly have this problem uses Intel graphics. I don't think the problem is specific to a graphic card, as I originally reproduced on a different system (with nvidia graphics) before reporting the bug. Thanks. I'm not sure why you needed this test. I thought it was clear enough from earlier tests. The KDE bug has multiple causes. That it does not specifically mention "nomodeset" did not seem important to me. I seem to recall that the various causes were related to graphics. Since "nomodeset" cripples the graphics capability, it isn't surprising that it would trigger the bug.
