Summary: Banshee can't play songs from a remote filesystem Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mboman@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de
In GNOME, if you connect to a remote file system (tried cifs and ssh via the "Connect to a remote server" applet) and try to play songs from there in Banshee, it does not work (No error message no nothing). Only way is to copy them locally. It should be possible to play music from a remote file system (gnomevfs?)

------- Comment #2 from mboman@novell.com 2007-03-05 00:43 MST ------- Although DAAP solved the issue for me (thanks!), this one should be fixed for 10.3.

------- Comment #4 from abockover@novell.com 2007-04-10 14:54 MST ------- Please do not simply close bugs like this. There is interest and it will be addressed. Most of the GNOME VFS backend was implemented in 0.11.x/0.12.x but it lost priority as SP1 approached. It will be finished in the next development cycle.

--- Comment #8 from Aaron Bockover abockover@novell.com 2008-09-24 09:39:10 MDT --- We dropped the old/broken GNOME VFS backend for Banshee 1.x, but do not have a gvfs/gio replacement backend. I'd like to write one, but have wanted to wait for gvfs/gio itself to settle and become available in more distributions. This has happened with openSUSE 11.1, so we'll need to make a decision for SLED 11. It might be too late though.
