[Bug 1016184] New: digiKam is not installed by default in KDE
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1016184 Bug ID: 1016184 Summary: digiKam is not installed by default in KDE Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: guoyunhebrave@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I install openSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE but digiKam is installed automatically. digiKam used to be a core application of KDE. Is there any reason that digiKam would not be a default KDE application anymore? Should we add it back? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

digiKam used to be a core application of KDE.
No. Digikam never was a "core application of KDE", it is a 3rd party application that happens to use the KDE libraries for its user interface. But that's just a side-note. ;-)
Is there any reason that digiKam would not be a default KDE application anymore? Should we add it back?
It is true that it was installed by default in previous openSUSE versions. And it is still part of the kde_imaging pattern in Factory AFAICS, like before. No idea at the moment why it wouldn't be installed by default then. I suppose I have to a fresh Tumbleweed install. Did you maybe disable the installation of "recommended" packages? How exactly did you install Tumbleweed, i.e what image did you use? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suppose I have to a fresh Tumbleweed install.
I meant "I suppose I have to _try_ a fresh Tumbleweed install" of course. And another question that may be interesting: Can you install digikam manually after the install, or is there a conflict? The latter would explain why it wasn't installed in the first place I suppose. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just choose KDE desktop, no additional package selection. Package recommendation is not disabled. I can install digikam manually, no conflict. I do have pattern kde_imaging and it recommends digikam. But it wasn't installed as expected. I guess it was the problem of the 20161123 snapshot which miss some packages or have conflicts. I installed another PC with the same DVD image, same USB stick. It also doesn't have digikam. I do checked the checksum of downloaded DVD image. But here is still a chance that the data written in USB stick contains errors. I will make a new installation with 20161217 snapshot tomorrow. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I installed with snapshot 20161123 DVD image.
Well, that's quite old already. And it may have been a particular problem with this image.
Package recommendation is not disabled. I can install digikam manually, no conflict.
Ok.
I will make a new installation with 20161217 snapshot tomorrow.
Great, if you could give it a go yourself and report back. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I was using the same usb stick. Strange. Maybe you can have a try, too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

This may arise from size limits on the DVD?
Likely, yes. I did several installations using the NET CD meanwhile (both Tumbleweed and Leap), and digikam was installed automatically everytime. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
