First, tried to create a vm from an existing installed openSUSE 11.3 on hard disk partition phy:/dev/sda10 Error: No kernel was found 2. Next, tried to install openSUSE 11.3 from DVD installation media source phy:/dev/sr0 onto the hard disk partition phy:/dev/sda10 openSUSE installation program started the DVD disk. Factory Build 0909 didn't contain kernel-xen. It looks like this was the case for Milestone 4 Build 0908 also.
Added kernel-xen-2.6.37-8.1.x86_64 rpm from Factory instead (2.6.37-rc3).
Tried to create a VM from an existing image (phy:/dev/sda10) and got the same error as before:

Yes, it is not a vm-install bug but rather an installation source bug. Without the xen kernel in the source, no openSuse Xen PV guests can be created. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Charles, please can you clarify the status of this fix in final distribution? I am afraid, that the bug has not been fixed in the final distribution of 11.4 KDE 64-bit. When I start the install of the domU from 11.4 KDE 64/bit DVD, the installation runs OK until the reboot. After the reboot of the virtual machine console screen disconnects and "Error: No kernel was found" is reported. I repeated this process more times on different 64-bit PC machines, always with the same result. Please can you advice me, whether the patch you sent for os11.4 Milestone 6 is applicable for the final distribution as well? If yes, please can you give me some link to details of the patching process, how to apply it? Thank you in advance for your help. It is frustrating to see so nice and robust system functional in many different details, but not applicable for real life operation, for which xen bugs prevent the configurations for high availability, backup and recovery. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If a bug is found to exist on the media, it can't be fixed because Suse doesn't remaster the installation media once it ships. After installing a machine, you need to make sure you have updated to the latest available kernel and Xen from the channnel (and everything else for that matter). Then proceed with your testing to see if there is a problem. If there is still a problem, a new bug should be opened with an updated description. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
