When installing the ose-guest-tools Package I get errors, so I looked into the kmp-package: # rpm -qlp virtualbox-ose-guest-kmp-desktop-3.2.6_k2.6.34.0_12-1.4.i586.rpm /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates/vboxguest.ko /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates/vboxsf.ko /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates/vboxvideo.ko #ll /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates/ total 252K -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 192K Jul 6 00:24 vboxguest.ko -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 52K Jul 6 00:24 vboxsf.ko -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4.8K Jul 6 00:24 vboxvideo.ko So obviously there are three kernel modules installed. But the links are set to the wrong places: ##ll /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/weak-updates/updates total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 54 Oct 28 20:03 vboxguest.ko -> /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop/updates/vboxguest.ko lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 51 Oct 28 20:03 vboxsf.ko -> /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop/updates/vboxsf.ko lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 54 Oct 28 20:03 vboxvideo.ko -> /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop/updates/vboxvideo.ko Notice that the path "/lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop" is different, and it does not exist on my machine. Therefore loading the modules fails: #modprobe vboxguest FATAL: Module vboxguest not found. #modprobe vboxsf FATAL: Module vboxsf not found. #modprobe vboxvideo FATAL: Module vboxvideo not found. The rpm is the latest package available via opensuse oss repository, as is the kernel package. I do not know if it would be the same with the pae-kernel and the corresponding kmp package... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640352 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640352#c6 --- Comment #6 from Johannes Kastl <bugzilla_opensuse@ojkastl.de> 2010-12-20 18:49:47 UTC --- I found out, that there were older directories in /lib/modules, from older kernels. After deleting all but the one fitting the running kernel, I uninstalled the kmp package and installed it again. Somehow it worked this time, the links in /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/weak-updates/updates now point to /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/updates/, and loading the modules works. This should be fixed nevertheless, installing the kmp-package should set the links to the right directories... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
