http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=616324 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=616324#c0 Summary: grub2: installed, and then removed: the entry was not removed from grub's menu.lst Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: jnelson-suse@jamponi.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.5.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.9 I upgraded an existing openSUSE 11.2 machine to openSUSE 11.3M7 (and, then, Factory). Then I installed grub2 (with 'zypper in grub2'). I was surprised to note that it did not remove grub, but perhaps they can co-exist. When I rebooted, I had 3 menu choices in the familiar grub screen, and one new one: GNU GRUB 2 -- openSUSE 11.3 - GNU GRUB 2 However, the grub2 choice didn't work, and I didn't feel like dealing with it, so when it booted (by choosing openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 7 - 2.6.34-9) I used rpm -e to remove grub2. However, the menu entry persisted. I don't think it should have. GRUB2 modifies GRUB1 menu in its post-install and pre-uninstall scripts. Can you attach your /var/lot/YaST2/perl-BL-standalone-log to find out whether it is bug of GRUB2 or perl-Bootloader? If possible, attach also /boot/grub/menu.lst just after GRUB2 installation (with the additional section). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Perhaps a note about grub2 is worthwile, as in, "this doesn't really integrate well with the rest of the system yet, please be cautioned!" -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
