[Bug 779951] New: After KDE4 update high cpu usage

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779951 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779951#c0 Summary: After KDE4 update high cpu usage Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: dutchkind@txoriaskea.org QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0 Since the update to KDE 4.8.5 yesterday my laptop starts running hot and cpu runs high all the time. I see processes like kconf_upd and kwin_upd coming by all the time but for the rest have not been able to pinpoint what is using so much cpu. What I do notice is that my system (Intel i5 and 8GB ram) has become slow, scrolling pages goes with delays and typing this as well. If this doesn't get solved I have to return to the previous version of KDE Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This file is now almost 1MB kconf_update seems to be doing this and it's logfile is now 115MB! Any idea how to fix this!!!! Btw This happens with an encrypted home, not sure if it has anything to do with it but running powertop I see kcryptd_crypt creating a lot more wake-ups than before this update of KDE. Logged in as user without encrypted home doesn't produce the error but that can also be because this user is hardly configured nor used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I discovered it had to do with kalarm trying to run without being able to start akonadi, which was disabled at my system. The latest kalarm needs akonadi. Disabling kalarm made all problems disappear, and with akonadi enabled kalarm runs fine. So for me this bug can be closed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
