Define “huge”, this is just 631 lines of the history file. Is it huge?

I did not notice any effect until the history file was 400000 lines in length, and even then it was minor.

Nothing unusual here. Admittedly, Matej, history file size and .inputrc config are likely of no relevance to what you're experiencing. I am at a loss because I have only been able to reproduce with those bizarre config changes. mc works flawlessly on my TW system otherwise. Out of curiosity, how frequently does this happen for you?
