[Bug 461703] New: Huge Memory Leak when compiling any application with automake and libtool on KDevelop (and the compiling fails because of that).
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461703 Summary: Huge Memory Leak when compiling any application with automake and libtool on KDevelop (and the compiling fails because of that). Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: spartanj@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Development I updated openSUSE 11.0 to openSUSE 11.1, and when i came to recompile my application on KDevelop, gcc started to eat my memory, and then my swap, and then my system collapsed. So i tried to recreate the whole project and didn't work. My project use automake and libtool to compile. Then i created a new project with the "Simple Hello world program" and tried to compile, and, i couldn't, the same issue, the compiler started to eat my memory again. Then i tried to compile the Hello World app example of Qmake and worked well, the same with the cmake Hello World. Example compilation failing: " cd '/home/programacion/test' && WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" LC_MESSAGES="C" LC_CTYPE="C" gmake -f Makefile.cvs && mkdir '/home/programacion/test/debug' && cd '/home/programacion/test/debug' && CXXFLAGS="-O0 -g3" "/home/programacion/test/configure" --enable-debug=full && cd '/home/programacion/test/debug' && WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" LC_MESSAGES="C" LC_CTYPE="C" gmake -k aclocal autoheader automake autoconf configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-debug checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for g++... g++ checking for C++ compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C++ compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler... yes checking whether g++ accepts -g... yes checking for style of include used by make... When libtool start to compile the memory leak occurs. The problem is that i need automake to compile my project because it's the only one that allows me to compile subprojects (that are in subfolders). The solution that i have for the moment it's Code::Blocks that compiles perfectly. I really need KDevelop to continue developing, i need the debugger! I tried to downgrade libtool and automake too, but didn't worked!! :S Indeed, i did a clean install of openSUSE 11.1, and still can't compile my project, i'm a little desperate because i need to continue with my project. Thank's for all. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The problem is on the script ltmain.sh generated by KDevelop. It generates an old script that fails with the newer versions of libtool, so i replaced the file ltmain.sh from my project with the one provided by libtool ( /usr/share/libtool/config/ltmain.sh ), clean my project and recompiled fine. But... when i tried to debug my applications gdb gave me some errors. So i had to downgrade gdb from 6.8.5.2008.11.20-2.1 to 6.8.24.1 and now all works fine. It's a KDevelop related problem, so i'll report it on KDevelop Forums. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This uses the script from the version of libtool installed with openSuse 11.1. It seems kdevelop was expecting an older version of libtool. I found this fix over at the ubuntu forums at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libtool/+bug/285841 I have not had any problems with debug using kdevelop but have not used it that extensively yet. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
