Creating a snapshot does not need disk space with btrfs. Updating the RPMs
later needs disk space.

For me, the problem isn't really clear. If I understand this correct, then the
problem is, that this is already a slow disk, and the timeouts happen, because
too much is accessing the harddisk?

In this case I agree, there is not much we can do.
