Understood. And, I am able to simply & consistently reproduce the problem on (currently) 3 different machines. In all cases, systemd v210 fails to shutdown correctly, v208 does not. Whether the causal difference is software &/or hardware environment, I've no idea yet. The tests above that excluded the majority of hw & drivers (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=903560#c15) suggest that it may not be hardware. It's clear the issue involves systemd. Whether that's a primary, or secondary, involvement, I don't yet know. Since Opensuse 13.2 ships with v210, and, IIUC, it has no available option to downgrade to v208 -- assuming that it's 'just' systemd version dependent -- upgrade to 13.2 poses a risk that similar machines will have these shutdown issues -- with no available fix/fallback.
