Just to understand this: is opensuse back with ethX device names for ethernet?
I have just looked at my test machine which I have always used directly
physically. I think I started with leap 42.1 milestone1 or milestone2 on it for
testing, maybe it was even 13.2 before that.

But I have always fetched the .iso files and used them via real physical
offline upgrade/install mode via usb-stick/iso-image. So maybe even that
offline upgrade/install variant brings different functionality and outcome from
online installs and upgrades via zypper (up/dup).

As said before, some other machine came back online normally, I shall check its
interfaces if they were or are ethX named.

But I am still missing in action two more machines across the distance and I
fear I need to pay a visit to those sites just the same :(
