Howard, to me, this looks a bit as if any task is crashing (likely systemd-logind). I suggest you setup the system to store coredumps (you can use for example http://dominique.leuenberger.net/blog/2014/04/debug-a-crash-after-it-happened-without-knowing-about-it-upfront/ as a guide) then we should see based on the cores what all crashed away... hopefully even getting stack traces.
