gpk-update-viewer is installed by default on openSUSE GNOME systems and periodically shows notifications about package updates. Unfortunately, it has a tons of weird UI bugs that not only make the software feel unfinished but also make the desktop itself feel unpolished. gpk-update-viewer only shows the version number of the new package version in the list of updates, but not the version number of the currently installed package. This unnecessarily makes it harder to gauge the impact of an update. E.g. to avoid disrupting my workflow, it might not make sense to install a potentially breaking update to a new major version of a package (as an example, v2.3 to v5.0). However, if possible, I want to have reasonably secure system, so I do want to install updates to new bugfix versions (as an example, v2.3 to v2.3.2). To make such selections possible in a reasonable way, please provide the old version number in the UI. E.g. by displaying the old version number in the details panel at the bottom as a first auto-generated line of the update description, like this: > Update of example-package from version 2.3 to version 2.3.2 > > This update fixes the following issues: > * Don't blu when you bla (bsc#0000) > ... This would also allow informing users about newly installed dependencies which you wouldn't otherwise see in the UI: > Newly install example-package version 2.3.2 > > This package is a new dependency of already-installed-package.
