It seems touchscreen gestures (including dragging from the left edge to show the dock, three finger drag to show workspace overview) don't work when these gestures are drawn over already open apps. If I do the same gesture on an empty desktop, on the other hand, it works just fine. On wayland, gestures work fine even when drawn on open apps.
