OK, so I suppose you are running the default Xfce session? That means the
background is drawn by xfdesktop and the "task bar" is the Xfce panel. They
might be crashing and in that case xfce4-session will automatically respawn
them (until you hit a limit).
In order to investigate them I would need a full backtrace of xfce4-panel and
xfdesktop when they've crashed with all debugging symbols installed.

download.opensuse.org redirects you to local mirrors and one of them may be
corrupt, a list of available mirrors is at http://mirrors.opensuse.org/ . In
any case I get the same checksum.
