Could you (or anyone who wants to change) rather argue this to upstream?  At
best post a trivial patch to revert that.

There is no reason to "fix" this *only* in our side, if the suggestion is
absolutely right.

In principle, we usually follow the upstream policy.  So the right way to
correct such behavior is to change the upstream at first.  Thanks.
