I was surprised by this decision too. And there is another important factor: a default 42.1 XFCE install pulls in GStreamer 0.10 only for xfce4-mixer (required by xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer). GStreamer 0.10 is EOL and GNOME got rid of it long time ago. openSUSE XFCE pattern sould drop GStreamer 0.10. It is dead software. xfce4-mixer + xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer can be replaced by xfce4-panel-plugin-pulseaudio + pavucontrol + pulseaudio + alsa-plugins-pulse. It will bring pulse into XFCE install, but I guess at this point there is not too much controversy, is there?
