FYI: In LibreOffice 5.3.x it is possible to switch back to the old rendering engine which does still support/allow to use Type 1 fonts too. Options->LibreOffice/Advanced->Open Expert Configuration, change the property /org.openoffice.Office/Common/VCL/TextLayoutEngine to "old". That option has been/will be removed in 5.4 though: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.4#Removed_configuration_options
