The current implementation in 60-io-scheduler.rules skips its own adjustments when elevator is set in cmdline - which is counterproductive at best, IMHO. When I read the above correctly the elevator setting has not been supported by the kernel for quite some time now. This begs the question what people are actually missing. We should (1) remove the elevator setting so at least 60-io-scheduler.rules starts working as intended. And then (2) I agree with Jan in comment 9 that we need to re-think what the expectations of this from the user/customer perspective is. IMHO we should leave this field alone and put a chapter into our SLE handbook. The natural alternative seems to me to control it in the storage-ng module.
