After activating a VPN connection, DNS changes but intranet lookups keep failing until I restart nscd. The problem is not new, I just didn't think about it as a bug. However, it looks like nscd should either monitor network interfaces or be restarted by the NetworkManager. Of course, the latter is easier to implement.
