# rpm -V kernel-default .M....... g /boot/initrd-4.12.14-25.23-default This happens on all distros at least since SLE12-SP3. The reason is that dracut creates the initrd with permissions 0600 (bug 1008340), but the kernel package contains a dummy initrd with permissions 0644.
