transactional-update was indeed mounting the same upperdir twice if there were no snapshots older than the current one. Now that the kernel introduced stricter checks for overlayfs mounting this popped up, but it was never really correct to start with (but didn't hurt either). I just released and submitted (https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/714110) version 2.15 of transactional-update which will avoid to mount an already mounted upperdir again. With this patch to transactional-update the reverts to the kernel commits can also be removed again.
