Making it so would make the base install a little smaller (4MB, it's not much, but still), as well as would remove two not so useful desktop entry. As java isn't widely used on the web (last time I saw a Java applet in a webpage, it was... something like 5 years ago). If someone need it, it won't be difficult to install it.
