# Observation

deja-dup fails to create backups today, because the version of duplicity is not
recognised (see attached Screenshot0.

duplicity seems indeed to have some issues with returning the current version:

> phoenix@tumbleweed:~> duplicity --version
> duplicity $version

The expected output should return a version number instead of $version, e.g.

> phoenix@leap15_3:~> duplicity --version
> duplicity 0.8.11
