No problem at all, I should have found that myself. Yes, it does print
"detected" when run as root

I can confirm this fix works very well: moving 50-vmmouse.conf to a number
higher than 60 (which is the libinput's one) gave me back the mouse
integration. Thankfully I can keep my EFI boot while waiting for the proper fix
to the vmmouse driver.
