To workaround your can explicitly specify the default entry.

  grub2-set-default "openSUSE Leap 42.1"

It should help in new created snapshots to have correct default match the title
rather than the default first entry.

About your suggestion, thanks and we will take it into account as we are also
having some discussion internally.

For $subject, I think it's won't fix (as it works for you.)
