i advice to use ext4 or xfs for "/" partition for slow hardware. i experimented ext4 with success. for those who can add a M.2 (pcie or nvme) or a sata ssd perhaps if they put "/" on it this may solve the problem. today a good little ssd is not so much expensive. see here https://www.tomshardware.fr/comparatif-geant-de-ssd-117-modeles-en-test/
