AFAICS the imap extension is not official marked as deprecated from the PHP
side.

Definitely there has been no change between 7.2.3 and 7.2.4, so I don't see a
reason for dropping imap support.

PHPs imap support is based on UW-IMAP which implements IMAP protocol on a C
base.

There has been some dispute to get rid of imap in the PHP community since the
UW-IMAP base seems to be badly maintained, but AFAIK without conclusion.

Thus I don't see much sense to drop imap support within a minor upgrade.
