I was finally able to capture a complete kernel output from the crash.
it starts with
[1072497.875042] CPU 0/KVM invoked oom-killer: gfp_mask=0x14000c0(GFP_KERNEL),
nodemask=(null), order=0, oom_score_adj=0
and at 1072640 the machine is silent. It does not respond to pings anymore.
Seems to also not react to sysrq over serial either, so needs reset.
