Sounds like kwin has crashed/didn't start.
Does it "fix" the problem if you run "kwin_x11" manually?
If it crashes, please provide the backtrace.


Might be a graphics driver problem though, there hasn't been any change to kwin
recently. (but then I don't see any graphics driver related change in the
latest snapshot either...)
