It depends what you want to do. rd.break=pre-mount will stop the initrd between the sysroot ro mount and the sysroot rw mount. You can do, whatever maintenance you need from there. Still, you will be in the initrd, which means you will have a limited amount of tools available. However, you can do a chroot /sysroot in order to get into the installed system in readonly mode.
