Under Fedora 23 the list mimics the kernel list of preconfigured modes, and manual mode-switching works fine. Could you perhaps provide a screen-shot? Also what do you consider "non-existing resolutions" and "actual resolutions"? The reason I'm asking is that typically the kernel provides a list of "standard" resolutions only that may or may not be perceived as relevant.
