Comment # 14 on bug 964429 from Stefan Dirsch

Well, probably before the NVIDIA packages were uninstalled but the nvidia
kernel module still active, so nouveau module could not be loaded and X falls
back to fbdev. After reboot nouveau X driver could be started. It's weird to
see nvidia failing detecting EDID record though.
