Indeed, I broke it. Sorry!
The patch was a bit too overzealous at blocking face icons, I thought they were
saved as <username>.face.icon everywhere.
As a workaround, you can copy your .face.icon to
/usr/share/sddm/faces/<username>.face.icon.
