I filed this based on my observations and daily activity trying to help in the Install/Boot/Login & Hardware forums (openSUSE and linuxquestions.org) and mailing lists. It's frustrating to see it keep happening. These are a few examples of activity that resulted in my filing this: Not Optimus: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533157-How-change-screen-resolution 2018-09-20 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533212-Leap-15-vs-GTX-1080ti 2018-09-28 Optimus: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/suse-opensuse-60/opensuse-15-installation-stalls-while-loading-4175632468/ 2018-06-22 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/531327-Anyone-get-Nvidia-Optimus-working-in-Leap-15 2018-05-28 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533219-Cannot-install-openSUSE-Stuck-at-green-loading-bar 2018-09-25 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533377-Installation-process-freezes-or-does-not-detect-partitions 2018-10-08 Can't even get to Syslinux or Grub boot menu: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/532950-Booting-to-LEAP-ISO-Hangs-at-Black-Screen 2018-09-04 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/533239-boot-on-Apollo-Lake?p=2881961#post2881961 2018-09-27 It seems as though no one with Optimus fails to need to use nomodset to succeed in installing, but only those who proceed post-installation to install software that isn't part of the distribution need to keep it. It seems bad for distro reputation and karma to keep having to instruct about nomodeset need and removal. (In reply to Stefan Hundhammer from comment #3) > I think this topic is not ready for any action; this needs more discussion. Indeed. Where?
