Since version 0.253 you just need to delete all *.ini and ~/.mame/ini/mame.ini
from ~/.mame and then run mame.
The fresh minimal config will be copied from /etc/mame/mame.ini to
~/.mame/ini/mame.ini then it can be fine-tuned.
