I neither know what "the Document Viewer" is
nor do I know what "the Preview window" is.

In particular I do not use any desktop environment.
I run various relatively minimal systems each one
only with plain X11 and only a plain window manager.

We provide various desktop environments and each one
can have various different kind of "Document Viewer" and
various different kind of "Preview window" applications.

and what you did.

Even if you are 100% sure that your particular way how you do it
is the same as all others do, tell exactly what you did nevertheless.

Which application program are you using where printing fails?

If you don't know which application program the desktop magic runs,
provide a screenshot or try if there is a "help" or "about" info
in your application program.

If printing from an application program fails, provide sufficient
information so that others have a chance to reproduce the failure.

In particular tell when you changed any of the default settings
in the print dialog of the application program ...
