You can still install older kernels from the update repo. E.g. try zypper se -s kernel-default Then it'll list all available packages. You can install any of them by specifying the package with the version suffix. Alternatively, you can download an old kernel package from URL above, then install it via zypper. In either way, pass --oldpackage option to zypper install command. zypper may keep multiple kernels. Edit /etc/zypper/zypper.conf for allowing more simultaneous kernel installations. And note that a test kernel is needed just for testing the sound. For that, VMware isn't required at all. Neither kernel-source. You just need to check whether the sound works or not.
