i got my 'rootless X' to finally accept keyboard inputs: openSUSE:42 still comes with xf86-input-evdev 2.8.x, but 'server managed fds' appeared only in 2.9 (which means: logind could not pass permissions down to the driver). There might be more such subtle errors in the system... With this setup, I am now able to * spawn gdm with autologin into an icewm session, which is still controllable. GNOME still fails to register the session though (which should also be integration with systemd-logind)
